Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall betting is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are allegedly required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel complex that features a number of amenities on top of the casino, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
