Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, where casino gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features numerous conveniences on top of the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
